I have posted separately on "Researching a Cameronian" concerning my late father's being attached to the 1st Battalion from the Worcestershire Regiment in 1927. I have researched the events and ascertained that in January 1927 the 1st Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) was despatched to Hong Kong to augment the Shangai Defence Force which was involved in protecting British interests in the face of a major uprising in the South of China. A question was asked in the House of Commons concerning the conditions which they encountered: leaking tents in the rainy season and no proper alternative accommodation. By the end of 1927 things had settled down and and the troops returned. I am awaiting a photograph which was taken of the Worcestershire contingent together with their commander, Capt. M K St. John Carpendale of the Cameronians. The fact that he was formerly a member of the Worcestershire Regiment may explain why this Section A of that Regiment was selected to serve with the Cameronians.
